After surviving sexual assault as an adult, memories and trauma of childhood sexual abuse were re-awakened. Moriah felt her only option for re-starting a lifelong journey of "healing through it", was to make music.
As a result, Maia "Tugg" Heartstrings was born. The songs of the Growth Project would be told through this concept character's voice. "This allowed me enough space from the trauma to approach it, but allowed me to fully explore the depths of my emotions in the months following the rape."
So, this first chapter of the project navigates through five songs, spanning the gamut of emotion; which mirror as an auto-biographical tale of Haven's true life experience. Throughout the songs, "Charlie" serves as a representation of not only her childhood aggressors, but also, as a representation of her adult assailant. Though this type of healing is a lifelong journey, through the Growth Project, Maia and Moriah healed through one more step of the journey through the pain together, enough to come out on the other end to meet the beautiful light of survival.
